Section 1:
During the first
semester wee are going to learn from the 1700 to the 1900. We’ll be talking
about farms, industries and transportation. In the 1750 in Britain, many babies
died before they were 1 year old. The parents still wouldn’t get close with the
children. People didn’t know about germs and bacteria. Getting around was slow.
They travel by water if possible, the roads were mostly bad. This is the period
were roman empire rise again. But this is the period were people moved on from
the Roman Empire. 1825 the population doubled. Farmers were growing more food,
new crops and farming methods developed. Many canals built, network of
waterways to most industrial areas. Journey to Edinburgh took 3-5 days by boat
and 46 hours by road. (vs. 1 week by boat and 10-12 days by road in 1750). In
1900 40 million people, this is the Victorian Era. They discover bacteria
effect humans too. Man can vote but woman can’t. The Darbys of Canalbrookdale,
Darby invented the way of making expensive brass pot cheaper.
Richard Arkwright
built a water frame. Water frame is a machine to make cloth. People are making
to make things easier, cheaper and faster.
Section 2: Deren teaching
What people are in 1750
are meats such as pigs and cows. They also farm vegetables, the works are done
by hand or horses. It takes a long time to cook things. They had fresh breads
too. They drink milk, water and beer. Milk was not safe, as pasteurization was
not discovered. Britain had just begun the industrial revolution. There were
only few simple machines. Most works are done by hand. Some power comes from
coal and water powered. People with less skill or unskilled people work in
farm. People with skills weave and spins in cottage industries, done at home,.
Average working week was 80 hours.
By 1900
they have white bread and drink tea. They had imported and tinned meats too and
bottled sauces. Vegetable such as cabbages, kale and potatoes were also
available. Machine had been used in farms, so less people work in farms. Many
people move to work in factories. Power comes from coal. New laws prevented
children under 10 to work. The middle classes didn’t do manual works and had
servants. Factory work was not skilled, wages were still not good.
